Associate Professor Kristian Kjær Petersen was awarded the EFIC Congress Abstract Prize during the 11th Congress of The European Pain Federation, EFIC.

The study assessed patients before total knee replacement surgery and found that patients who are characterized as highly pain sensitive display high levels of pain catastrophizing thoughts and limited function and are at high risk of chronic pain after surgery.

The study is a collaboration between SMI researchers, Dennis Boye Larsen and Lars Arendt-Nielsen, and Mogens Laursen and Ole Simonsen from the Orthopedic Department at Aalborg University Hospital.
